Buick Regal Recall Faults Suspension Defect

» Posted April 27, 2026Resources | Share This Post

General Motors is recalling Buick Regal sedans for the third time to try to address suspension issues that pose serious safety risks.

The new recall covers certain 2012 and 2013 Buick Regal Turbo and GS models that were not included in the previous recalls. The problem is a rear toe link fracture that can cause loss of vehicle control, GM once again told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“These vehicles may have rear toe links that received improper electrocoating (e-coat) corrosion protection, which could cause the link to be more susceptible to long-term corrosion,” GM said in a recall notice. “Corrosion may eventually cause the toe link to thin and ultimately to fracture.”

“A rear toe link fracture may reduce the ability to control the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash,” GM added.

Similar toe link issues have prompted recent recalls of Ford Explorers and Rivian pickup trucks and SUVs. Although GM discontinued the Regal in 2020, it continues to address defects in cars still on the road.

The company said it planned to notify owners of recalled cars by the end of April. Buick drivers can also check the NHTSA website to see whether their vehicles are included in the latest recall or any previous recalls.

GM wants owners to bring their vehicles to dealers for inspection and repair. “Dealers will replace rear suspension toe links and adjuster fasteners,” the company told NHTSA.

California Lemon Law Rights for Buick Drivers

The sad fact is that GM and other major automakers recall millions of vehicles across the country every year, citing a wide range of defects that put people’s safety at risk. These recalls often come long after cars leave factory floors and dealership lots, sold to unsuspecting buyers.

GM recalled some 24,000 Buck Regal sedans in 2022, for example, warning that the cars’ power brakes could suddenly malfunction. The automaker blamed a software glitch for the problem, which it said increased the risk of crashes.

Here is the good news: Buick and other drivers in California have strong rights under the state’s lemon law.

The lemon law requires carmakers to perform a wide range of repairs on vehicles while they are under warranty. It also forces companies to buy back (or, in some cases, replace) covered vehicles that they are unable or flat-out refuse to fix. That includes compensating the owner for the purchase price, financing fees, rental car costs, and other related expenses.

There is no specific number of repair requests or attempts required before the buyback or replace requirement kicks in. That is one reason why it is important to consult an experienced California lemon law attorney.
