Cadillac Electric SUVs Called Back Over Window Snafu

» Posted October 14, 2026 • Resources | Share This Post

General Motors is recalling nearly 30,000 Cadillac Optiq electric sport utility vehicles because of a problem with their front power windows.

The windows may not automatically stop and reverse if they encounter an object while being closed with the key fob's express-up feature, the automaker said in a recall notice. That includes occupants’ arms, hands and fingers, as well as other objects.

“There is an increased risk of injury to a person in its path,” GM said in the notice, filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall covers Optiq SUVs from model years 2025 to 2027, built between July 2024 and September 2026.

Federal safety rules require power windows to automatically stop and reverse if they detect an obstruction while closing. An Optiq supplier set the anti-pinch protection's upper travel range too low, according to GM. The problem was spotted by a GM employee in June, the company said, and further testing prompted the recall. The automaker said it is not aware of any field complaints about the defect or any reports of related accidents or injuries.

GM plans to notify owners of recalled vehicles by November 9. In the meantime, owners can check the NHTSA website to see whether their vehicles are included in the recall.

The company will issue an over-the-air body control module software update to recalibrate the anti-pinch protection. Owners can also opt to bring their vehicles to GM dealers to get the update.

“The revised BCM software calibration raises the upper travel range of the anti-pinch protection to consistently meet the stop-and-reverse requirements,” GM said.

Lemon Law Rights for Cadillac Drivers

General Motors and other major auto manufacturers call back slews of cars, trucks and SUVs each year, citing a wide range of defects that pose hazards for everyone on the road.

The latest Cadillac recall comes after GM in July said it was calling back some 14,000 Vistiq electric SUVs, for example. The vehicles’ power-folding third-row seatbacks could fold down on and trap children or smaller passengers, the manufacturer said at the time.

Fortunately, Cadillac drivers in California have some valuable rights and protections under the state’s lemon law.

The lemon law requires GM and other automakers to perform various repairs on vehicles while they are under warranty. The law also requires companies to buy back (or replace, in some situations) cars they cannot or will not fix. The buyback requirement includes compensating the owner for any down payment, monthly loan payments, and the outstanding loan balance. The manufacturer is also responsible for towing, rental car, and other related expenses.
