Ford Motor Co. recently unveiled another big bet on plug-in vehicles, putting down $185 million on a new effort to make batteries in its home state. Tesla’s controversial driver-assist Autopilot technology is once again in the spotlight following a fatal accident that killed two people in Texas. It appears that no one was behind the wheel when a Model S recently crashed into a tree in Houston, leaving two passengers dead. Although it is not clear whether Autopilot was engaged at the time of the crash, a local fire marshal report said one person was found in the front passenger seat while the other was found in a rear seat, according to Jalopnik.

Miniature European vehicles are set to invade the U.S., courtesy of French automobile manufacturer Citroen. The Ami, a small electric vehicle that costs around $6,000, is reportedly headed stateside as part of the new EV subscription service, CNBC reports. Startup electric carmaker Rivian is making a play for new customers with a generous warranty offer. When the company rolls out its first pickup truck and sport utility vehicle in June, they will come with an eight-year/175,000-mile warranty, Car and Driver reports. That beats the current industry standard - eight years or 100,000 miles - but does not reach a similar unlimited mileage warranty offer from Tesla, the electric vehicle giant with which Rivian wants to compete.

General Motors is recalling some 95,000 full-size sport utility vehicles that need to have their seatbelts replaced, the company recently announced. The belts in the third row of seats are prone to damage when the seat is folded.

President Joe Biden’s big infrastructure plan includes a sizable bet on the future of driving.
