Ford Recalls Super Duty Trucks, Expeditions Over Headlight Defect

» Posted October 21, 2026 • Resources | Share This Post

Ford Motor Company is recalling nearly 42,000 Super Duty trucks and Expedition sport utility vehicles because of a headlight issue.

Contaminated LED chips inside certain headlamp assemblies can cause the lights to dim or stop working entirely, Ford said in a recall notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“LED chips in headlamp assemblies may have been exposed to contamination at the chip supplier’s manufacturing facility,” Ford said. “Inoperable exterior lighting features may reduce visibility for the driver and/or make the vehicle less visible to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.”

The recall spans the heavy-duty end of Ford's lineup: F-250, F-350, F-450 and F-550 Super Duty trucks, built between August 2025 and August 2026. It also covers about 14,000 Ford Expeditions built from June 2025 to July 2026.

Ford's Supplier Technical Assistance team flagged the problem in May after becoming aware of inoperative LED headlamps on 2026 Super Duty trucks, according to the automaker. Ford said it is aware of at least six warranty claims and six field reports related to the problem, but no incidents of crashes or injuries.

Ford plans to notify owners of recalled cars by November 13. In the meantime, Ford drivers can check the NHTSA website to see whether their vehicles are included in the recall. The company will ask owners to bring recalled vehicles to authorized service providers for inspection and repair.

“If inspection passes, no further action will be taken,” Ford said. “If the inspection fails, dealers will perform a replacement of the headlamp(s).”

Lemon Law Rights for Ford Drivers

Ford has also pledged for several years to cut down on defects and safety issues, prompting the slew of recalls. Yet, the recalls continue.

The automaker recently announced, for instance, that it is recalling more than 220,000 F-150 pickup trucks, citing a problem with their front fuel tank straps. Ford said the loose straps could allow fuel tanks to jostle and detach from the trucks while they are on the road.

These kinds of recalls are all too familiar. Ford has led major automakers in total safety recalls for several years running.

Ford drivers in California, however, have some good news. Many do not have to wait for recalls to be announced to force Ford to fix defective and malfunctioning vehicles.

The California lemon law forces auto manufacturers to perform certain repairs on vehicles while they are under warranty. It also requires the companies to buy back cars that they cannot or will not fix.

The buyback requirement includes compensating the owner for any down payment, monthly loan payments, and the outstanding balance on any vehicle loan. The manufacturer is also responsible for towing, rental car, and other related expenses.
