Hyundai Recalls Tucson SUVs for Faulty Instrument Panels

» Posted June 29, 2026Resources | Share This Post

Hyundai has issued yet another recall, this time for Tucson sport utility vehicles whose instrument panels may stop working.

A software problem is to blame for the snafu, Hyundai recently told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“The instrument panel (“IP”) display in the subject vehicles may intermittently reboot during vehicle operation, potentially resulting in a temporary blank display screen due to a software logic issue involving the IP cluster assembly and the Head-Up Display (“HUD”),” the automaker said in a recall report. “An inoperative IP cluster image could mask essential gauges, such as the speedometer, fuel gauge, and certain on-screen notifications, increasing the risk of a crash.”

The recall covers certain 2025-2026 model Tucson, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The cars were built between June 2024 and May 2026.

Hyundai said it became aware of the problem through a customer complaint. “There are no confirmed crashes, fires, or injuries/fatalities attributable to this condition in the U.S.,” the automaker said.

Owners of recalled SUVs will be notified by mail by August 22, according to Hyundai. Tucson drivers, in the meantime, can check the NHTSA website to see if their vehicles are included in the recall. Hyundai said owners can bring their cars to authorized service providers for a software update or opt to have the update sent over the air.

Drive a Hyundai? Know Your Lemon Law Rights

This is just another day in the life for Hyundai, where recalls over defects that increase crash and injury risks have become all too common.

The company recently recalled more than 54,000 Elantra hybrid vehicles, warning that the cars could catch fire. Hyundai said the cars’ hybrid power control units could overheat.

Earlier this year, Hyundai recalled some 400,000 Santa Cruz and Tucson SUVs, citing a software issue that could cause the vehicles to brake unexpectedly. It also called back roughly 300,000 cars and SUVs for defective seat belts.

The good news for Hyundai drivers in California is that you have some important rights and protections under the state’s lemon law.

The lemon law requires car manufacturers to perform a wide range of repairs on vehicles under warranty. It also forces Hyundai and other automakers to buy back (or replace, in some cases) covered vehicles that they are unable to fix or flat-out refuse to fix. That includes compensating the owner for the purchase price, as well as financing fees, rental car costs, and other related expenses.

There is no specific number of repair requests or attempts that must occur before the buyback-or-replace requirement kicks in. That is one reason why it is important to consult an experienced California lemon law attorney, who will help you understand your rights and take action.
