Jaguar, Land Rover SUVs Called Back for Power Failure

» Posted April 23, 2026Resources | Share This Post

Jaguar Land Rover is recalling more than 170,000 hybrid sport utility vehicles, warning that the cars could lose power on the road.

The problem is a defect in the vehicles’ electric converters, the automaker recently told federal regulators. What is more, the company does not yet know how to fix it.

“A concern has been identified on Jaguar and Land Rover Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicles where the DCDC converter can fail due to an internal fault in the boost control microchip,” Jaguar Land Rover said in a recall report. "A failure of the DCDC converter will result in a loss of 12V system charging, and a ‘Stop Safely Electrical Fault Detected’ red warning.”

The recall covers a range of vehicles, including:

  • 2019-2024 Range Rover Sport
  • 2020 Land Rover Discovery Sport
  • 2020-2023 Range Rover Evoque
  • 2020-2024 Land Rover Defender
  • 2020-2024 Range Rover
  • 2021-2022 Jaguar E-Pace
  • 2021-2024 Jaguar F-Pace
  • 2021-2024 Land Rover Discovery
  • 2021-2024 Range Rover Velar

“Should the customer ignore this warning and continue to drive, additional warnings may appear,” Jaguar Land Rover said in the report, filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. “Continuation of the journey will result in the vehicle losing motive power and coasting to a stop after a period of time, and eventually losing exterior lighting. A loss of motive power, or of vehicle lighting, will increase the risk of a crash.”

Jaguar Land Rover plans to notify owners of recalled cars by June 12. Owners can also check the NHTSA website to see if their cars are covered by the recall. What they cannot find out, at least for now, is how the automaker plans to address the problem.

“The remedy for this recall is currently under development,” Jaguar Land Rover told NHTSA. “Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available.”

Know Your Lemon Law Rights

Californians have valuable rights and protections regarding malfunctioning and defective cars. You do not need to wait around for a recall to get your car fixed, with the vehicle manufacturer picking up the tab.

The California lemon law generally requires carmakers to perform various repairs on vehicles while they are under warranty. It also forces companies to repurchase covered vehicles they cannot repair. That includes compensating the owner for the car’s purchase price, as well as financing fees, rental car costs, and other related expenses.

There is no specific number of repair requests or attempts required before the buyback or replace requirement kicks in. An experienced lemon law attorney can help you understand your rights and take action.
