Lucid Calls Back Gravity SUVs for Faulty Airbags

Lucid Motors is already calling back new sport utility vehicles over an issue that poses a serious safety threat.

A defect may prevent side airbags from deploying properly in Gravity SUVs, Lucid recently told federal auto safety regulators. The problem stems from seat backrest covers.

“Certain Lucid Gravity 2026 model year vehicles may have incorrect front seat backrest covers, which could prevent the front seat side airbags from deploying correctly, increasing the risk of injury during a crash,” Lucid said in a defect notice.

The recall covers 66 Gravity SUVs, which were produced over two weeks in September 2025.

“Some front seat backrest covers were mislabeled as left or right during the seat cover manufacturing process, causing some front seats to be assembled with incorrect seat backrest covers,” Lucid said. “Based on vehicle inspections of suspect factory and inventory vehicles, Lucid estimates that approximately 39.4% of the recall population would have the defect.”

Lucid plans to notify owners of recalled vehicles via mail by Feb. 6, the automaker told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Lucid will inspect vehicles’ front seats and replace any incorrect seat backrest covers.

“Lucid will reimburse owners for costs an owner reasonably incurred to obtain a remedy for this safety defect during the period starting from initial vehicle delivery through 10 days after Lucid’s mailing of the owner notification letter concerning this defect.”

Legal Rights for Lucid Owners in California

The latest recall comes less than one month after Lucid announced it was calling back some 900 Air sedans, citing a camera defect. The cars’ rearview cameras may not work while the vehicles are backing up, the company told NHTSA.

In October, Lucid recalled some 225 vehicles that the company said could lose power suddenly and without warning. Lucid told NHTSA that the defect also increased the risk of crashes.

Californians have some important rights and protections when it comes to malfunctioning and defective cars. You do not need to wait around for a recall to get your car fixed, with the vehicle manufacturer picking up the tab.

The California lemon law generally requires Lucid and other carmakers to perform various repairs on vehicles while they are under warranty. It also requires the companies to buy back covered vehicles that they are not able or refuse to fix. That includes compensating the owner for the car’s purchase price, as well as financing fees, rental car costs, and other related expenses.

There is no specific number of repair requests or attempts that must happen before the buyback or replace requirement kicks in. An experienced lemon law attorney can help you understand your rights and take action.
