Lucid Warns Air Sedans Could Suddenly Lose Power

Lucid is calling back more than 2,000 Air sedans, citing a defect that could cause them to lose power on the road.

The cars’ Gen 4 inverters, which convert battery power into electricity for motors, could malfunction and damage other parts, Lucid recently told federal safety regulators.

“Friction damage (fretting) on internal connections can lead to signal interruptions and switching module failure in Gen 4 inverters, which may lead to unwarned loss of motive power,” the automaker said in a recall report. Lucid also acknowledged that the problem “may increase the risk of a crash.”

The recall covers certain 2024 and 2025 Air Pure rear-wheel-drive models, which were built in September 2023 and December 2024. The company said it became aware of the problem in March 2025.

Lucid told NHTSA the company plans to notify owners of recalled cars via mail by July 10. Air drivers, in the meantime, can check the NHTSA website to see if their vehicles are part of the recall.

The company plans to send out an over-the-air software update to better warn drivers about power failures, about 100 miles before cars stop. Drivers who receive the warning should bring their cars to authorized service providers to have their inverters replaced.

“The remedy for this condition is a software update to detect potential Gen 4 inverter failures, set a diagnostic trouble code, and provide a hard-latched warning to drivers, which says ‘Drive System Fault, Schedule Service Immediately,’ which requires a Service visit to clear,” Lucid said. “Gen 4 inverter failures attributable to this condition will receive an inverter replacement.”

California Lemon Law Rights for Lucid Drivers

Lucid, like other carmakers, large and small, has struggled to ensure that its vehicles are actually safe to hit the road. The company also recently recalled certain Air Pure sedans for a separate issue with loose bolts that Lucid said could cause power loss.

Fortunately, the California lemon law gives Lucid drivers in the Golden State some valuable rights and protections. You do not need to wait for a recall to get a defective or malfunctioning car repaired.

The lemon law, formally known as the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, requires Lucid and other carmakers to perform a wide range of repairs on vehicles under warranty. It also forces automakers to buy back (or, in some cases, replace) covered vehicles that they are unable or flat-out refuse to fix. That includes compensating the owner for the purchase price, as well as financing fees, rental car costs, and other related expenses.

There is no specific number of repair requests or attempts that must occur before the buyback-or-replace requirement kicks in. An experienced California lemon law attorney can help you understand your rights and take action.

"I was blown away at how fast the settlement wrapped up. I was told about 8 months to a year for success, but Brian Wagner and his supporting team did a fantastic job, perhaps 6 months ahead of schedule. From my initial consultation with Erika, her assessment of my case, including the assigning of Mr. Wagner as counsel, the stress reducing assurance of paralegal Andy Kim, and the personable approach of Melanie, who eased my anxiety with her confidence and support in reception of my calls. Great job team!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!"
