Mercedes Screen Display Snafu Prompts Recall

» Posted June 3, 2026Resources | Share This Post

Mercedes-Benz is recalling nearly 150,000 cars due to a problem with their digital information panels.

The panels could repeatedly reset, Mercedes-Benz recently told regulators at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. A software defect is to blame for the reset loop, according to the company.

“Due to the system design, an intended system reset might be triggered,” the automaker said in a recall report. “During the brief period the reset is in process, the Instrument Cluster may not display certain driving-related information.”

This is not just an inconvenience. Mercedes-Benz acknowledged that the problem “increases the risk of a crash.”

The recall covers a wide range of vehicles, including these models:

  • 2025-2026 GLC 300
  • 2025-2026 C 300
  • 2024-2026 CLE 300/450 4MATIC
  • 2025-2026 GLC 350 E
  • 2025-2026 E 350
  • 2024-2026 E 350 4MATIC
  • 2024-2026 E 450 4MATIC
  • 2025-2026 AMG GLC43/63
  • 2024-2026 AMG CLE53 4MATIC
  • 2025-2026 AMG C43/C63 S E
  • 2025-2026 AMG E 53
  • 2025-2026 AMG GLC43
  • 2026 AMG SL 43/55/63
  • 2026 Maybach SL 680
  • 2026 AMG GT43

Mercedes-Benz plans to notify owners of recalled cars by June 26. In the meantime, Mercedes drivers can check the NHTSA website to see if their calls are included in the recall. The automaker will ask owners to bring their vehicles to authorized service providers to have their infotainment control unit software updated.

Owners should also be aware of signs of trouble. “Before the issue occurs, the driver will not receive a warning due to the nature of the failure mechanism,” Mercedes-Benz said in the recall report.

Legal Rights for Mercedes Drivers in California

These kinds of safety recalls are all too routine for Mercedes-Benz and other auto manufacturers.

Mercedes-Benz recently called back a small number of GLA sport utility vehicles, for instance, over a problem with their doors. The company said occupants could be trapped inside the recalled SUVs.

Mercedes-Benz owners and lessees in California should be aware of their legal rights when it comes to malfunctioning and defective vehicles. The good news is that the state’s lemon law offers you some valuable protections.

The California lemon law, formally known as the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, generally requires carmakers to perform a wide range of repairs on vehicles under warranty. The law also requires manufacturers to buy back cars they are unable or unwilling to fix. That includes compensating the owner for the vehicle’s purchase price, as well as financing charges, rental car costs, and other related expenses.

There is no specific number of recall requests or attempts that must be made before the buyback or replacement requirement kicks in. An experienced California lemon law attorney can help you understand your rights, explore your options, and take action.
