Mitsubishi Outlanders Called Back Over Camera Glitch

» Posted October 7, 2026 • Resources | Share This Post

Mitsubishi is recalling more than 67,000 Outlander sport utility vehicles, citing a problem with their infotainment systems that can also cause rearview cameras to fail.

“Due to improper software programming, the Alliance In-Vehicle Infotainment system may fail to boot, freeze, restart unexpectedly, display a black screen, or the screen may scroll unintentionally,” the automaker said in a recall notice. “If any of these conditions occur during a backing event, the rearview camera image may be lost.”

The recall covers certain 2025 and 2026 Outlanders, as well as 2026 Outlander plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The cars were built between December 2024 and late July 2026.

Mitsubishi says the problem is with infotainment systems supplied by Bosch. Improperly designed software may cause screens to go haywire, fail to boot, freeze, restart, or go blank. It can also disable rearview cameras if this happens while drivers are shifting into reverse, Mitsubishi said.

The company first learned of the issue through a field report from Canada in October 2025. Mitsubishi found 39 U.S. warranty claims that appear to be related to the defect, but said it is not aware of any related accidents or injuries.

Mitsubishi planned to notify owners of recalled cars by September 24. Outlander drivers can also check the NHTSA website to see if their vehicles are included in the recall.

“Owners of all affected vehicles will be notified and encouraged to bring their vehicles into Mitsubishi dealerships,” the company said. Service providers will reprogram infotainment software, according to the company.

California Lemon Law Rights for Mitsubishi Drivers

Mitsubishi and other major auto manufacturers recall millions of cars every single year, citing a wide range of defects and malfunctions that pose real risks for everyone on the road. The recalls typically happen long after cars leave factory floors and dealership lots, sold to unsuspecting drivers.

Earlier this year, for example, Mitsubishi recalled more than 100,000 Outlander SUVs because of a problem with their rear liftgates. The company said the liftgates could fall unexpectedly, increasing the risk of injury.

Fortunately, Mitsubishi drivers in California have some strong rights and options when it comes to malfunctioning and defective cars.

The California lemon law generally requires Mitsubishi and other carmakers to repair vehicles while they are under warranty. It also requires companies to repurchase covered vehicles they cannot or refuse to repair. That includes compensating the owner for the car’s purchase price, as well as financing fees, rental car costs, and other related expenses.

No specific number of repair requests or attempts must occur before the buyback or replacement requirement kicks in. An experienced lemon law attorney can help you understand your rights and take action.
