Mustang Mach-E Electric Cars Called Back for Window Trim

Ford is recalling nearly 87,000 Mustang Mach-E electric sport utility vehicles because window trim pieces could fly off, the automaker recently announced.
That is not only a problem for Mach-E drivers, but also anyone sharing the road with them.
“Rear side quarter window glass trim may detach from the vehicle while driving,” Ford said in a recall notice. “A detached rear side quarter window glass trim can create a road hazard for other road users, increasing the risk of a crash.”
The recall covers Mach-E SUVs from model years 2023 through 2025. Ford estimates only about 1 percent of the recalled population actually has a defective trim piece. The automaker became aware of the issue via a jump in warranty claims. Ford said it has received more than 200 such claims, but is not aware of any accidents or injuries.
The automaker plans to notify owners of recalled SUVs via mail by Sept. 14. Owners can also check the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website to see if their vehicles are included in the recall. Ford will ask owners to bring their vehicles to authorized service providers for inspection and repair. Specifically, service providers will inspect the rear-quarter window trim on both sides of the vehicles and replace it if it isn't properly secured.
In the meantime, Ford says the earliest sign owners should be on the lookout for is trim that looks loose or not fully seated, along with wind noise, squeaking, or rattling from the rear quarter window area while driving.

The automaker recalled at least 7.4 million cars over a recent four-month period. The recalls included calling back about 4.4 million cars over a software issue that could cause trailer connection lights to go on the fritz. Ford also separately called back more than 400,000 Explorer sport utility vehicles, warning that drivers could suddenly lose control of the cars.
The good news for Ford drivers in California is that you do not need to wait around for a recall to get your car fixed.
The California lemon law generally requires carmakers to perform repairs on vehicles under warranty. It also forces companies to repurchase covered vehicles they are unable or unwilling to repair. That includes compensating the owner for the car’s purchase price, as well as financing fees, rental car costs, and other related expenses.
