Porsche Fire Risks Prompt New Recall

» Posted October 24, 2025Resources | Share This Post

A new recall by Porsche highlights a serious defect that puts anyone in the cars or sharing the road with them at risk.

The German luxury automaker recently called back more than 100 cars, citing fuel pump problems that could lead to fires. The cars’ high-pressure fuel pumps may not be properly fastened to cylinder heads, Porsche told U.S. auto safety regulators.

“If the sealing connection is not secure, fuel can escape under high pressure,” Porsche said in a notice filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. “This may result in a sudden and substantial fuel leak, which increases the risk of a vehicle fire.”

The recall covers certain vehicles from the following models:

  • 2024-2026 Porsche Cayenne
  • 2024-2026 Porsche Panamera
  • 2025 Porsche Panamera E-Hybrid

Porsche said it would notify owners of recalled vehicles by Nov. 21. It will ask owners to bring their cars to authorized service providers for inspection. Service providers will repair fuel pump connections as needed, the automaker said, free of charge.

The sooner owners get their cars fixed, the better.

“In some cases, a fuel smell may be perceived by the driver, or the malfunction indicator lamp (Check Engine Light) may illuminate,” Porsche said. “However, these signs are not guaranteed. The defect may remain undetected until a fuel leak occurs.”

Know Your California Lemon Rights

Porsche makes some of the more expensive cars on the market, but its vehicles are susceptible to some of the same design and production flaws that plague other auto manufacturers.

Porsche’s parent company in April announced it was recalling some 18,000 vehicles over faulty airbags and rearview cameras. It announced months later that it would call back some Panamera and Taycan vehicles, citing a suspension defect.

Fortunately, California car owners and lessors have some important rights and protections under the state’s lemon law. You do not need to wait for a recall to get a defective vehicle fixed.

The lemon law, known formally as the Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, forces automakers to perform a full range of repairs on cars while they are under warranty. It also requires the companies to buy back (or replace, in some cases) vehicles that they are unable to or simply decline to fix.

The buyback requirement includes compensating the owner for any down payment on the car, as well as for monthly loan payments and the outstanding balance on any loan. The manufacturer is also responsible for towing, rental car, and other related expenses.

There is no exact number of repair requests or attempts that must happen before the buyback or replace requirement kicks in. An experienced California lemon law attorney can help you understand your rights and take action.
