When you buy a car, you expect that the vehicle will perform up-to-par and won't need repairs or have serious problems for a long-time. New car buyers are entitled to have these expectations, and when a car falls short, an Orange County lemon law firm can provide assistance in taking appropriate legal action.

Unfortunately, in some circumstances, many vehicles are released onto the market that have serious defects that prevent the vehicles from meeting the expectations of their owners. And, in a worst-case scenario, some of these cars actually turn out to be dangerous.

When a car is sold that has defects, it should be recalled by the manufacturer. Car recalls are very common and it seems new ones happen all the time. In fact, Cars.com reported recently on five big recall incidents during the month of July 2018.

The Five Biggest Car Recalls in July

According to Cars.com, the five biggest car recalls during July included:

  • The 2013-2016 Ford Escape and Ford Fusion: An estimated 504,000 Ford vehicles had to be recalled in July because of a problem with a shifter cable bushing. The bushing, which connects the shifter to the transmission, can become detached and the car can change gears, causing a potentially fatal accident.
  • The 2015-2018 Volkswagen Golf and Golf SportWagon: VW had to recall 33,000 of these vehicles because silicate is building up on the microswitch contacts of the shift lever. This means the key could be taken out of the car even when the vehicle isn't in park – which could lead to rollaway accidents.
  • The 2017-2018 Mercedes Benz AMG and C Class: Around 11,000 Mercedes has to be recalled because of a problem with the beltline trim not bonding appropriately. The trim could become loose, endangering other motorists, so it's not just a cosmetic issue.
  • The 2013-2015 Audi S8 and Audi A8: Around 6,000 Audi's were recalled due to a problem with the fuel supply line. The line could become porous over time, which could potentially lead to a fuel leak and a possible fire.
  • The 2018-2019 BMW X3 and X4: These BMW SUV's had to be recalled as a result of insufficient coating on the rear brake caliper pistons. The problems with the coating could result in reduced break performance. Dealers who are fixing the recall must bleed the circuit on the rear-brakes to resolve this particular problem and to ensure that the SUVs are safe for consumers to drive again.

If you find yourself with a defective vehicle, whether it is subject to a recall or not, you need to make certain you understand your legal rights. An Orange County lemon law firm can represent you and advise you as you take legal action to recover for losses caused by vehicle defects. Contact an attorney as soon as possible when you begin having vehicle issues to learn about your rights and to get an advocate on your side.
